This course teaches delegates to understand the potential causes of stress, and how it can impact upon them as an individual.

Consideration is given to the role personality plays in the way we approach life, and why some people are able to bounce back from challenges whilst others become stressed. Attendees will learn how to measure their own level of resilience, based upon seven components: Emotional awareness, empathy, realistic optimism, problem solving, self-efficiency, impulse control, and reaching out. They’ll learn how to utilise cognitive behavioural techniques for improving resilience and achieving success, and feel motivated to change.

The course will also increase awareness of University policies and resources available to manage stress.

Course components include:
• Understanding your own possible causes of stress, and how they might be impacting upon you
• Self-awareness of your levels of resilience to stress, and the impact of your personality on your susceptibility to stress
• Your ability to decide which techniques for change are right for you
• Increased motivation to make changes to your work and life
• Understanding of the University resources for making changes to your work and life
• Shared experiences with other participants

The course has no prerequisites and is available to all employees who wish to improve one or more aspects of their life and/or work, and have possibly found it difficult to make changes in the past. The next sessions will run on 12th January.
