Julie BayleyI am delighted to announce that Dr Julie Bayley will be joining the University of Lincoln as the Director of Research Impact Development. She will be focused on impact across the organisation including – and beyond – the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in keeping with our strategic commitment to “purposeful research”.

Dr Bayley brings with her a wealth of expertise in impact development, with a strong national and international profile in impact consultancy, grounded in her personal academic research as a Health Psychologist. She knows the University well, having been working with us as an external consultant to support the development of our REF impact case studies, and it is expected that she will join us in May.

Dr Bayley is an impact specialist and Chartered Health Psychologist, and has been an applied researcher in behaviour change interventions since 2003. She was seconded as Coventry University’s Impact Officer (2014-16) where she developed an impact ‘capture system’ and supported impact strategy, bid writing and devised training institution-wide. Dr Bayley now maintains an academic research role whilst working to support impact sector-wide. Her key focus is developing impact literacy across the research environment, with a particular passion for improving impact knowledge, skills, and culture.

Dr Bayley has a national reputation for building impact capacity within the sector, and in 2015 won the inaugural Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) Impact Award in recognition of her work. She is champion of the ARMA Impact Special Interest Group, leads impact training, and sits on the ARMA Professional Development Committee. She also chairs the Consortia Advancing Standards in Research Administration Information (CASRAI) Impact working groups, and maintains a national and international profile in impact, behaviour change, impact strategy development, and improving impact culture.

Dr Bayley undertakes extensive consultancy across the university sector (UK and beyond) and has received a range of commissions to support funders in enhancing their impact strategy and governance.

She has also been appointed as Emerald’s Impact Literacy Advisor to support the ‘Real World Impact’ programme. In this role, she will work with Emerald to develop tools, services, strategies, and capacity building activities to strengthen impact within the UK and internationally.
