British Science Week: A look at Lincoln Medical School.

The University of Lincoln’s collaborative bid with the University of Nottingham to establish Lincolnshire’s first medial school was successful in Spring 2018.

This September will see our first cohort of students join University of Nottingham medicine programmes taught and delivered here at Lincoln across the Brayford campus.

A planning application for a purpose-built teaching facility for future students was submitted in January. The building would accommodate two lecture theatres, seminar rooms and a science library along with an anatomy suite, clinical skills suite and specialist laboratory.

Scheduled for completion in spring 2021, it has been designed to meet the highest environmental standards, with photovoltaic panels generating electricity for its laboratories. It is anticipated it will be one of the most eco-friendly medical school buildings anywhere in the world.

The biodiversity of the area would be increased through seeding of wetland wildflowers to the edge of the Delph Pond and the designs include a roof terrace which will act as an extension of the teaching space with an abundance of plants and grasses.

If approved, the £21 million building would be situated next to the Janet Lane-Claypon Building and opposite the University’s iconic Isaac Newton Building on the southern edge of the campus. The site already has outline planning permission under an existing masterplan.
